Sponsor Announcement - Caravan Beads

Caravan Beads, another great local destination for crafters, is bringing along a great project that will be donated to the residents of the Salvation PROMISE House which is our charity for the next Chicago Craft Social.

A note from Charlene and Dan...
We’re the owners of Caravan Beads of Chicago, a retail bead store on Chicago’s north side. When we opened the store in 1994 it was part of a dream come true for us. Since we’ve opened, our selection of beads has grown significantly. In fact, we grew so much we had to move to a bigger store. Fortunately, it was right across the street. We tripled our retail space and added separate classrooms. Our inventory has grown to include over one million different types of beads, including seed beads, Czech glass, art glass, semi-precious, castings, ethnic, Swarovski crystals, Bali and Thai silver….and the list goes on!
Caravan Beads is NOT a franchise! Each store is independently owned and operated, and each has a different and unique selection of beads. (Our shop carries the complete line of Miyuki Delica beads, over 1000 colors in all, as well as an extensive selection of other Japanese seed beads.) We all have the same philosophy, however…We strive to make Caravan Beads the only place you’d ever want to shop for beads!
Every year we discover tons of new beads that we just can’t live without, every week we find exciting new treasures to add to our selection. And of course, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting thousands of wonderfully talented beaders!
We are expanding the business, and this summer we began Beads To Go, our shop on-line! For those of you who just can’t make it into the store, now you can still get all the pretty beads! But, for those of you who can stop in…..come by and say hello to all the friendly faces. We’re full of great ideas and the staff is extremely knowledgeable.
Thanks again for checking us out. Happy Beading!

There are some great classes at Caravan Beads whether you are a beginner or experienced bead crafter and they even have Bead Therapy Nights.  Need a great party idea for an upcoming birthday, bachelorette party or girls night out?  Caravan Beads can also host that for you with their great party options.

Resin Pendants
At the next event, you can learn how to create a Resin Pendant with hands on experience that will be donated to the residents of the Salvation Army PROMISE House.  Use your crafty talents to brighten someone's day!  To join in on this fun and learn this cool process, you bring NOTHING except your smile.

Sponsor Announcement - Arcadia Knitting

The great folks over at Arcadia Knitting have volunteered to sponsor one of our wonderful Project Tables at the next Craft Social, June 18th.  We are so lucky to have some of the wonderful local shops attending this event and encourage everyone to support their local crafty retailers.  If you are a fan of all things yarn, this is a store you want to schedule a trip to!

Here's a little bit about Arcadia Knitting...

My sister and I opened the shop for some basic reasons. We weren't seeing the yarn we wanted to buy in other shops. There are too few shops in Chicago. We wanted to share our love of the craft with others. We wanted our own business and what else could we do that would be so fun that we wouldn't mind the twelve hour days?
What we have learned so far is that there are so many wonderful yarns that deserve to be knit and enjoyed. More than we will ever have room for no matter how big the shop. But we are learning to be very careful about price and value. How much per yard and how well does it knit up? Are the colors exciting? Are the patterns well written?
We swatch each yarn as it comes in to see what it looks like and how it knits up. Sometimes we take it home for tests: coffee, wine and olive oil. We admit that we don't loose sweaters because they wear out but because we're messy eaters.
Patterns are another story. So many to choose from and yet it's hard to tell: will this be easy for customers? Where's the mistake? Why does that shoulder seam look so funny? Now we ask yarns reps to give us a sample pattern before we buy so we can sit down and read through it in peace. This goes double for patterns from translation.
We admit that we are fussy and critical. We want good yarns, we want good patterns, we want our customers to be successful knitters. We will work hard to make it easier for you. But it's more than a craft, it's a life and a community. That's what we say about the shop, it's not much of a living but it's a life. So, now that we are on our way please stay with us and see how we grow and change.

Arcadia Knitting has a wide selection of amazing yarns as well as classes and even free knitting patterns and tutorials on their site.

Flip Flop Knit or Crochet Fun!
At the Chicago Craft Social, you will be able to join the Arcadia Knitting Table and either knit or crochet a decorative element and add it to some fun summer flip flops.
To participate all you need to do is be registered to attend this cool event and bring along size 8 or 9 knitting needles and/or a size G crochet hook.

Sponsor Announcement - Chipotle Restaurant Skokie

While we are all getting our craft on next Friday night, we can re-fuel on some great chips and salsa provided by the Chipotle Restaurant in Skokie. They were generous enough to donate chips and salsa so that we can keep our energy up with all that creativity that will be going on.

A little bit about what makes Chipotle so special...

"Food With Integrity" isn't a marketing slogan. It's not a product line of natural and organic foods. And it's not a corporate initiative that will ever be finished or set aside to make room for other priorities. It's a philosophy that we can always do better in terms of the food we buy. And when we say better, we mean better in every sense of the word- better tasting, coming from better sources, better for the environment, better for the animals, and better for the farmers who raise the animals and grow the produce.

The hallmarks of Food With Integrity include things like unprocessed, seasonal, family-farmed, sustainable, nutritious, naturally raised, added hormone free, organic, and artisanal. And, since embracing this philosophy, it's had tremendous impact on how we run our restaurants and our business. It's led us to serve more naturally raised meat than any other restaurant in the country, to push for more sustainable practices in produce farming, and to work with dairy suppliers to eliminate the use of added hormones from their operations.

It's even influenced the way we view other aspects of our business, from the materials and systems we use to design and build our restaurants, to our staffing and training programs.

We like the food we serve today. And, because of our Food With Integrity philosophy, we're confident that we'll like it even more down the road.

Personally, I am a big fan of the awesome customer service I get at the Skokie location at 5373 North Touhy Avenue as well as their chicken burrito with guac...yum!

There will be other refreshments on hand as well to keep everyone going strong through the night, don't worry.  There are treats and beverages for everyone.

Sponsor Announcement - Vogue Fabrics Store

Vogue Fabrics Store has been a great sponsor for the upcoming event by supplying lots of fabric for some of the projects.

Here's a little info about Vogue Fabrics...
Since 1945, Vogue Fabrics has become one of America's largest and best-loved fabric stores. Originally opened by Sy Sussman and Sol Farber as a small fabric shop for dressmakers, Vogue Fabrics orginal store has grown into a department store of fabrics covering half a city block. We also have two other Chicagoland locations, two internationally known swatch catalogs, a wholesale division at our warehouse, and this internet site.

We are now in our third generation of family ownership.

We stock thousands of bolts of silks, woolens, rayons, polyester, cottons, linens, drapery and upholstery, bridal laces, trims, notions, patterns from over thirty independent pattern companies, promotional items, and so much more. On any given day, our stores are crowded with home sewers as well as dressmakers helping their discriminating clients put together the latest designer fashions; costume designers preparing for plays; fashion students coordinating new collections; and groups of sewers chartering buses from all over the midwest making the sojour to Vogue Fabrics to see the latest styles that are not available in their home towns. Brides also travel great distances because they know they will find just what they envision for the wedding of their dreams.

You can visit the store if you are in the Chicagoland area or shop online.
